LOG HOME TIPS

Educational tips on building your log home:

ON DESIGN

Custom designing your own log cabin ensures that you are getting the home that will meet all your families' individual needs. Below is a list of designing options and how they may affect the log home package price:

  • Stage 1: Basic log home (lowest cost)
The basic log cabin is one that has four corners. The more corners your plan has the more labor involved and the higher the cost. A simple roof system of one ridge pole and two purlins is present.
  • Stage 2: Basic log home with some additions (moderate cost)
Options available to add to the basic log cabin include: Log trusses in the roof system and the addition of a interior log wall.
  • Stage 3: More complex home (moderate plus cost)
Options at this stage include: Log gables, log valleys and more complex log trusses incorporated into the roof system. Additional log walls are usually present through out the home.

Use these stages as a guideline only when designing your home. Square footage usually increases as you work you way down the stages. We would be pleased to answer any questions you may have.

Log Cottage Building Tips

Emseal is an expandable foam gasket that is optional but recommended in all handcrafted log homes. It is installed along the lateral groove and notches on each log. Emseal ensures an air tight seal between the logs. All logs are insulated with fiberglass insulation with the recommended emseal running down laterals and notches.

Having your log cabin stained on our site prior to the reassembly process has proved to be very beneficial to many of our clients. The process of staining your home inside and out can be very time consuming. Most log cabins typically require 2-3 coats of stain. Having this process complete for you helps to speed up the finishing process. It also keep the logs in prime condition protecting them from the elements.
