How Wood is Selected for your Handcrafted Log Home
Your home will be manufactured from the highest quality timber available in North America. Douglas Fir. This timber has many exceptional qualities which make it the building log of choice. Douglas Fir allows the average mid span diameter to be 14 - 15". It dries easily and with little tendency to check, providing good dimensional stability. The wood is hard, strong and has a clean bright appearance. Each log is hand picked and must meet strict criteria before becoming a house log.
House log Criteria
- Straight grain - ensures no twisting of the log.
- Free of dry rot
- Free of pitch checks
- Free of bug infiltration.
Each log that goes into your home will be peeled by hand. A good strong physique and draw knife is all that is required to bring out the uniqueness and beauty of each individual log.
