Designing a Log Home That Fits Your Lifestyle

Home / Designing a Log Home That Fits Your Lifestyle

At North American Log Crafters we maintain a design service to help you evaluate your needs.  We’ll turn your dreams into your dream home! Being involved in the planning of your log home ensures that the results will be exactly what you’re hoping for! Finding the style of home that appeals to your personal taste in a size that fits your budget is the first step.

You can expect the cost of the log work to represent 25%-35% of the total cost of your finished home.

A custom floor plan designed with your family’s lifestyle in mind will enhance the comfort, convenience and enjoyment of your home. Many people begin with a plan that is close to what they want, but modify it to fit their needs.  The best part of building a custom log home is a design that works for the way you live!

Commonly requested modifications:

  • Increase/decrease square footage
  • Increase or modify window size/add dormers
  • Add a garage or carport
  • Move partition walls to create open living spaces
  • Change entry door/enlarge foyer/add mudroom
  • Add porches, decks, or balconies
  • Change kitchen layout/add island

You will help create a log home that has strength, character, and any features that you can imagine. Custom designs are priced on an individual basis so if you’re keeping a budget in mind, our experienced professionals can explain ways to get the look you want and the function you need at a price you can afford.

Every home is unique: bring us your ideas!

  • Cozy cabin or landmark log estate?  It’s up to you.
  • Simple chalet style or complex roof system?
  • Hillside lot with walkout basement or roomy rancher?
  • Flat sided log with dovetail corners?
  • Classic round log with your choice of log end styles?
  • Post & Beam with big logs and framed walls?
  • Timberframe with milled timbers inside and out?

Planning

The character of your home will be as individual as you are…your home tells your story.

As you look at plan ideas, picture how you’ll use your home. Do you have a view that you want to enjoy from certain rooms?  Do you want ample outdoor living space for entertaining?  Will you have overnight guests frequently?  How many children do you have (or are you planning?) Do you have grandchildren and extended family that you’ll host during holidays or summer vacations?  Does your floorplan need to accommodate any family health issues?

A log home can be a stunning and functional showcase of craftsmanship with log staircases, railings, fireplace mantles as well as log walls and roof support system.  Handcrafted log trusses are hardworking decorative elements that announce your personal style.

If you prefer, opt for log exterior walls with conventional interior partitions or explore timber frame and its rugged milled timbers or  the design versatility of post and beam.

Even a conventional frame home comes alive with unique log elements such as log columns, posts, exposed beams or handcrafted log trusses.

We are happy to discuss with you personally the many different choices available and compare the various advantages of all!
